Carpenters, builders, and construction professionals gathere for an evening of networking, presentations, and discussion on building science and construction techniques for high-performance building. Each month, we will have short presentations from guest speakers around a chosen topic and then open discussion among the group. Drinks and snacks are provided and attendance is open to all.
This month, two experienced craftspeople responsible for some of the tightest buildings in the area, Jason Taylor of Carbon Cutters and Ryan McCarthy of Auburndale Builders, will be sharing their strategies for air sealing in new construction and in retrofits. Topics covered will be best-practice blower techniques, choosing the right materials for the task at hand, common mistakes to avoid both at the design and specification stage and in the field, “how tight is tight enough?,” and a host of others. Expect the usual free-wheeling, candid, and occasionally testy conversation that this monthly gathering of passionate practitioners has come to be known for.
And note on your calendar that the June 27 meet-up will be a companion to this month’s, featuring a large-building blower door test of a very leaky church in Newton Centre.
Auberndale Builders, Newton, MA 02472 has agreed to host the month's meeting. We'll be meeting in their confernce room.
Building Science for Carpenters is an ongoing series co-sponsored by the Studio for High-Performance Design & Construction (StudioHPDC), the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston (BRAGB), and Passive House Massachusetts (PHMA).
